What makes the screwless terrace system different?

February 2026

Roof terraces have become a desirable feature across residential and mixed-use developments but building at height with traditional approaches can be time consuming, labour intensive and beset with logistical hurdles. How can roof terraces be constructed simply, efficiently and without the typical structural challenges faced by contractors who are exposed to both delays and the elements? Raaft’s innovative screwless terrace system has been designed to overcome these challenges and has redefined how rooftop spaces are built.

Conventional roof terraces often rely on bespoke substructures, extensive fixings and precise coordination between multiple trades. All of these can increase the risk of project delays and cost overruns. The weather can also hinder the construction process as traditional approaches depend on dry, stable conditions and bespoke approaches for accurate levelling and material handling. While a traditional approach can result in a strong result, they frequently demand significant contingency planning and on-site coordination which is something the most commercial timelines can ill afford.

A different approach

This is where Raaft has taken a fundamentally different approach by addressing these challenges head on. At the heart of the Raaft screwless terrace system is a modular design featuring interlocking aluminium joists and bracing struts that eliminate the need for screws. These innovations not only

simplify installation but also facilitate easy maintenance and future modifications.

Adjustable support

Raaft's Preventa pedestals are height and slope-adjustable, allowing installers to accommodate uneven roof surfaces without the need for complex build-ups. Manufactured from corrosion resistant steel, the adjustable pedestals provide a strong, lightweight foundation which ensures stability without adding excessive weight to the roof structure.

Fire and wind resistance

All core components, including pedestals and joists, are manufactured from BROOF (t4) fire rated materials while the system is engineered to resist wind uplift, using secure locking clips or high strength adhesives tested to meet UK wind conditions.

Drainage and service access

Efficient water drainage is also integral to the design, helping to prevent water pooling and potential damage. The secured decking is easily removed to allow for inspections and maintenance of underlying services.

Design flexibility

Highly adaptable, the Raaft roof terrace system is available in a wide range of finishes, surface options and modular configurations to allow for creative freedom on any project regardless of the complexity. In addition to decking and tiles, Raaft’s integrated roof terrace planters allow for greenery and vegetation to be incorporated seamlessly.

Ease of installation

Installation of the roof terrace system is fast and straightforward due to lightweight components and modular logic, minimising the need for large specialised installation teams.

Beyond handover, Raaft’s roof terrace system offers long-term benefits, with components low maintenance and engineered to withstand extreme weather, moisture and UV exposure.

Raaft’s complete terrace system offers a genuinely different approach to rooftop terrace construction. By combining a modular, screwless design with built-in adjustability, fire and wind resistance, and long-term durability, this roof terrace system can be installed faster, easier and will perform reliably over time.
