135 Park Street, also known as TIDE Bankside, is a 12-storey sustainable office development in London’s South Bank, replacing the former Emerson warehouse and contributing to the area’s transformation into a modern cultural and commercial hub.With 148,500 square feet of space divided into Grade A offices, affordable workshops and retail units, the development was designed to be net-zero-carbon with BREEAM Outstanding and 5-star NABERS ratings. Wellbeing and sustainability have been addressed with features that include rooftop gardens, extensive natural lighting, 284 cycle parking spaces, and showers.The InstallationThe rooftop gardens feature products from the Raaft Terrace system. This modular system is comprised of height-adjustable support pedestals to raise and spread the loads of the system’s extruded aluminium joists. These create a stable, level frame for structural trays and porcelain decking tiles, which fit precisely into the frame and are held in place by discreet clips that prevent wind uplift.Steel planter systems mounted on the structural trays create ideal conditions for lush planting that complements the panoramic views from the terraces’ elevated positions.The design of the building features multiple complex profiles that the terrace system installers had to work with, presenting a challenge that the system rose to.Products UsedThe Raaft Terrace System features a modular design that encompasses all of the elements required to construct a durable, stable rooftop garden that preserves the integrity of the building envelope without compromising its strength, stability, or waterproofness while enabling easy access to the flat roof construction and rooftop services.Raaft products used in this project include:Terrace Support Structures – providing a solid, adaptable base for the terrace installations.Porcelain Tiles – high-quality tiles delivering both durability and aesthetic appeal.Steel Planter Systems – robust and stylish planters used to integrate greenery throughout the terrace areas.Specifying Raaft products for the entire terrace construction ensured full compatibility and ease of installation.The ResultThe roof terraces have provided the occupants of 135 Park Street with lush planting, seating areas, and panoramic views of the city, where wellbeing and diversity integrate seamlessly with the architecture of the building to create a tranquil, outdoor environment that aligns perfectly with the development’s sustainability goals.
